Visit Somerset

As some of you may or may not know, our manager, Morgana West,  has been part of the Town Council Promoting Glastonbury (PGC) and, during the year 2016 - 2017, was the first (ever!) non-councillor to be Chair of a Council Committee.  At the last election in May, Morgana stepped down as Chair in order to focus on developing the work of the Pilgrim Reception Centre. She was however, duly elected as the Deputy Chair with Councillor Jon Cousins stepping into the Chair.

Recently, the PGC encouraged the town council to have a highlighted web page on Visit Somerset, a site with a tremendous volume of traffic and we are thrilled with the way it is presented.

Do check it out and share it with your friends.

We feel this is a positive step in helping to promote our town, its diversity and all that Glastonbury has to offer.  It compliments the town's existing information sites, Glastonbury Online and the Oracle Online and we are delighted that the Town Council is acknowledging Glastonbury in ALL its diversity.

To maximise our benefit from working in partnership with Visit Somerset, we need to provide regular updates on events, opportunities, news etc. We will get more from the site if we put more in!
If anyone has anything Glastonbury (and local area) related, and would like it to be considered on Visit Somerset, please send to Gerard Tucker.

An Avalon Anthem

12/15/2016

This song is a collective effort by several people and we offer it in the spirit of uniting our hearts and voices, sharing and celebrating together the healing, love, beauty and belonging of our very own special Glastonbury community.
The development of the Anthem. . .

The inspiration behind the Anthem was to create a community song that reflected the beauty and spirituality of Glastonbury, a song that could serve to bring our community together. A song through which we can all express the many gifts we can offer to  the world and brings us all together in our community activities, our festivals, our schools and in our everyday lives.

Dr Lynne Sedgmore CBE has been coming to Glastonbury as a pilgrim since 1989, got married here in 1994 and moved here in 2010. So when Morgana West, co-founder and manager at Glastonbury Pilgrim Reception, had a powerful dream about creating a new song for Glastonbury and asked her to produce the lyrics, she felt deeply called to do so.

Both Morgana and Ananda O'Kelly helped to further develop the words. The music took longer via a classical version, then a guitar version until its culmination into a  beautiful choral score written by Sally Pullinger for the Avalonian Free State Choir.

Friday 1st August, celebrated by some as Lughnasadh or Lammas sees our group meditation, suitable for all, in the space of our new Glastonbury Sanctuary and around the Glastonbury Unity Candle.

Led by the lovely Julie Lovelock, we will start with some relaxation, followed by a guided visualisation and some time in silence, bringing in the light and uniting hearts and minds in peace and love. All are welcome.

By donation. You will be supporting the Sanctuary and helping us take our work into the future.

 The Architecture of the Soul

We are very proud to be working with the great folks of the Silent Eye School and honoured to be bringing their work into Glastonbury. The great thing is that they feel to be learning as much as we are so we reckon that's a pretty good trade-off!

Their next talk is on Thursday the 7th August, in the Avalon Room at 7.30pm and entitled - The Architecture of the Soul: approaching the mystery together.

The evening will be largely unscripted and will rely on interaction between us all to produce a rich and personal experience.

The word 'Soul' has been used in many ways since the Greeks laid the foundations for Western Civilisation.  Use of the word Soul generally donotes a personal vehicle of the self.  But which self? Is my sense of "me-ness" myself?  What about the personality - where does that fit into a picture of the Soul?  And what about psychology's Ego, does that form a part of the overall picture?

In this talk the Silent Eye School depart from their usual style of presentation, laying out the room in a ritualistic pattern of four quadrants. Movement between each of these, by us all, will be used to illustrate the sense of self and its relationship to that which goes beyond the ordinary psyche and strives to link us out from the world of Becoming to the inner world of Being.

The presenters have long pedigrees in the Western Mystery Traditions and you can find out more about them here. . .
