The story is set in 1996, a time far enough ago to have a gentle haze of nostalgia, and yet not too prehistoric. We read of an ancient house just outside the town that holds a clutch of old hippies in its stony and dilapidated bosom, as well as ancient secrets, dark deeds, and murder most foul amidst the scent of patchouli oil and joss sticks.
It is also a story about those who peddle nostrums, tell fortunes, and make a living selling dreams and eternal wellbeing. There is a bit of daring do, romance and adventure but more than that it's about the need for friends, especially when you get old. And love, which can sometimes provide all the wellbeing you really need, for free.
And it all kicks off when an old lady takes a trip of a lifetime.
The Author...
Bernard Pearson moved to the West Country in 2000 and opened the world famous 'Discworld Emporium' in Wincanton. A close friend of the late Terry Pratchett who once told him that writing is the most fun anyone can have with their clothes on. That's what he does now.
He bore the trepidations of 'Lockdown' with a stoic calm due mostly to the regular intake of Gin and pipe tobacco. And of course, the ministrations and enduring patience of Isobel, his best friend of the last forty summers.
He lives in Wincanton, Somerset, which doesn't seem to mind.
