The Glastonbury Thorn - Branches further afield
Ask some people in Glastonbury and they will say that the Thorn will only bloom twice a year when it has its roots in Glastonbury soil. Take it away from the area and it will 'lose its Glastonbury memory' and revert to a single flowering. A romantic notion. However, Morgana West has been researching Glastonbury Thorns, Crateagus Monogyna biflora, around the world and has found quite a few! This is likely to be an ongoing project as more come to light. If you know of any existing trees not listed here, do let us know. If you are connected to them in some way and can update our info and even supply an image, we would love to hear from you. Sadly, some of those listed are no more, but we include them for interest.

Please also note that we are aware of several that sit on private property in people's gardens. We have not listed them here due to respect of privacy. |
